South Lebanon Army

Today, the BBC website has a pictures series on the Al-Khiyam prison in southern Lebanon. Here is a caption from a picture showing the tiny solitary confinement cells, "The detention centre was kept as a military secret by Israel and was not open to inspection by international humanitarian groups. There were frequent allegations of the use of torture by prison guards, who were members of Israel's proxy militia, the South Lebanon Army."

Fascinating. The South Lebanon Army is Israel's proxy militia. This puts Hezbollah's recent soldier snag in a slightly different light. I wonder if Lebanon has a proxy militia, the "North Israel Army." No? Now how is that fair?
